Banff Copenhagen

Banff Poster Copenhagen

It was 30thSeptember , I was walking around the street of Norrebro, Copenhagen. Where I am living for three months, suddenly I saw a poster,

Banff Poster

Though I am not able to read or understand Danish language, but the picture of the poster catch my mind. Man! I know this blue picture, and yes it is the Banff Mountain Film Festival Poster, and that is the only word written in English, Whatever the poster also says that the film festival take place in 3rd of October, after seeing this I was so excited. Because, in my country we also celebrate this film festival from our youth hub, name of our organization is Kewkradong Bangladesh, we have already celebrated film festival for this year with a huge success, it was three days program in the Gothe institute Dhaka.

Anyways come to the point.  I took the picture of the poster so that I will be able to find the location, coming back to my dorm I was asking my roommate (named Wali), that if he wants to go he said I am on for it. Then I google the location and

Banff ticket

find out that it is very nearby where I live, But I have a long day on that day. My session will be start from 9.00 in the morning and it ends at 5.30. And the festival will start at 5.30. So I have to run, anyways somehow I managed to go there, but holy crap! The show is not free, it costs 150 DKK ! that means in BDT its 2100. They have two shows and each one costs that

Banff Hall

amount of money ! We had arrange this year’s programs, So I have seen all of the films, I just go to the counter to just introduce myself to the organizers. When they know that we arrange this program in Dhaka every year from 2009, the guy just give me and my friend Wali two free tickets, with the replying keep the adventure spirit go on. We then enjoyed the film show with a hall full of adventure lovers and I must say , YES ! outdoor lover has same language throughout the whole world

Me infront of Some Graffities

Me infront of some graffities

Yea that is the exact word heard when I was out of the plane to the airport after having a 14 hours of journey.  I had a transit to Doha Airport for three hours. But all together it took me 14 hours to get down here. Where am I, Obviously after having a look to the title of the blog you should understand that I am in Copenhagen (Denmark). Yes there I am writing blog from a danish PC :-) . cool huh?

Any ways what I was telling before. After having my luggage and backpack with me, The Airport Custom officer after checking my passports and all that stuffs just told me that word.

What I am doing at Denmark? Yes that is a good question. I am here is for learning some campaign stuffs. How it can be conducted so on and so forth. The course is basically running by Actionaid Denmark. Actionaid is a multinational NGO operating around 40 countries, as well as in Bangladesh. I cannot tell more than this because I have some code of conduct which I have to maintain right now… later I’ll obviously tell.

Little Marmeid sitting on Osterborg

The Famous Little Marmeid

Anyways back to the business, Yes I am in Denmark right now. its Copenhagen to be exact :-) , It is my first europe tour. And not to mention

but Yes I am Happy!

So far I explore Copenhagen is a nice city to roam around. City is well planned as all the european city is. And I just love the

city, because there are lots of bi-cycle. People just hop up with the bi-cycle that what I like most. Also the City is full of lots of graffities. I dont know why? but they have it all around Copenhagen and yes I must say there are also lots of sculpture, and the most renowned one is the Little Mermaid. Its a charecter of a fairy tale written by famous poet and writer Hans Christian Anderson, Also there is an animation movie by Disney called Little Mermaid based on the tale.

And Some Lady when I was Asking for Little Marmeid around Somewhere told me that. It’s the beauty of Copenhagen. Where you can see lots of Sculpture and We love fairy tale.

Welcome to the country of Fairy tale Masuk ! (ooh thats my first name)

I am a business student, and my favorite topic which one I found a little bit interest is marketing. Though I am a marketing Student, I used to work and learn about hoe to promote your ideas and views to the customer. So that customer gets motivated to buy your services and products and so on and so forth. Recently in this decade Bangladesh has been introduces the corporate culture. As to work on the challenges of 21st century every country have to professionalize themselves and to get prepare their citizens to work with the world.

Coca-cola Quit India

Coca-cola Quit India

Now it is said that, consider the whole world is one marketplace and get prepare to sell your products, so what that means? It means we have to get prepare for ourselves as well as our surrounding people to promote our products throughout the world, so that that make sense to us and have find a good position in the world market place.

But is the scenario same in Bangladesh? Consider our countries market place, where you found a bunch of Indian products as well as some other countries products. For the everyday using products it is totally under control of Indian products. I know you people know about it very well maybe better than me, and it is obvious when you try to compete a larger country than your one you will be looser not the gainer, And it is Ok to consume some other countries products as we are saying that we are the citizens of the world not a single geographic area, and that is called Globalization.

Yes I agree with this one no problem, but there are other terms, have you know about that? It is a new concept of Marketing, which is consider as GLOCAL. It is basically conjunction of two words that are Global and Local.  The concept says that Think globally but have a local influence on it. In short don’t destroy your individuality but prepare yourself as a global citizen. So that everyone can at least consider you that where are you from.  Globalization does not mean that you have to put yourself on the flow. It is something that you are stand out in a crowd. In today’s world we can easily recognize people from various countries like, American, Indian, and Japanese and so on and so forth. But can you recognize yourself as a Bangladeshi? I bet you cannot. It is happening just because of we lost our individuality.

I am not saying that to promote yourself you have to throw out all of your values and social structures where you belong. But you have to consider yourself how much you are promoting yourself on the flow.  That is the main key to success. Because from the history of Human Nature it is observed that no country can longer sustain which have no individuality. So it is for our better good to survive and promote our culture. We are not another part of sub-continent, We have a different views that what we should execute.

But in today’s flow of Corporate culture, what we do? We go on the flow, what Americans do or what the Indians do that become our cultural part. Is that are we looking for? I guess no! If McDonald’s can change their entire menu for entering India.  Why we give room to the others to have their own cultural values to lie up on us. Come on everybody knows that McDonalds is popular for their Beef dishes throughout the world. But in India, the scenario is something different, because of major people of India are not want to eat beef, so that McDonalds come on the vegetable dishes what you can found only in India. Not any other McDonald’s chain in the entire world. There are plenty other firms who are having same practices over the world for different reasons. But when it is come to the scenario of Bangladesh no one give a chance to promote our own

We are open social structure, but does that mean we lose our entire Social Values and norms for just sake of some corporate cultures? Is that something like we go on the flow because of we have a small national boundaries? Every one considers us minority or else they will not operate?   No problem if India can promote their values on the Glocal concept or even the Japan; Malaysia can why don’t we? Is that something we cannot promote our values to the world? Come on we have heritages better than any of the country, so promote your country through your work. If India can ban Coca-cola for not having the 100 percent Indian employee and give 80% share of the income to their economy why don’t we? It is you who have the chance to encourage your values and norms. Think again!

Dhaka (Bangla: ঢাকা, pronounced [ɖʱaka])- formerly Dacca and Jahangir Nagar, is the capital of Bangladesh and the principal city of Dhaka District. Dhaka is a megacity and one of the major cities of South Asia. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, Dhaka, along with its metropolitan area, has a population of over 12 million, making it the largest city in Bangladesh. Dhaka is known as the City of Mosques and renowned for producing the world’s finest muslin. As a cosmopolitan city, Dhaka has been the center of Persio-Arabic and Western cultural influences in eastern Indian Subcontinent. Today it serves as one of the prime centers for culture, education and business in the region.

Under Mughal rule in the 17th century, the city was known as Jahangir Nagar. It was a provincial capital and a centre of the worldwide muslin trade. The modern city, however, was developed chiefly under British rule in the 19th century, and became the second-largest city in Bengal after Calcutta (presently Kolkata). After the Partition of Bengal in 1905, Dhaka became the capital of the new province of Eastern Bengal and Assam but lost its status as a provincial capital again after the partition was annulled in 1911. After the partition of India in 1947, Dhaka became the administrative capital of East Pakistan, and later, in 1972, the capital of an independent Bangladesh. During the intervening period, the city witnessed widespread turmoil; this included many impositions of martial law, the declaration of Bangladesh’s independence, military suppression, devastation during war, and natural calamities.

Modern Dhaka is the center of political, cultural and economic life in Bangladesh. Although its urban infrastructure is the most developed in the country. Source: www.wikipedia.org

You people may or may not very aware of Dhaka city, some of you know Dhaka is Passing its 400 years of being a capital of various times. Dhaka was being declared as capital first time by the Mughal emperor, after that it has been declared as one of the major cities of the Indian subcontinent. After birth if Bangladesh, Dhaka was first declared as a fully functional modern capital of Bangladesh. This is the only city of Bangladesh, where you experienced almost every part of Bangladeshi people variations. Because of all the major offices and the other most important administrative works are done from our very own Dhaka city, but being a citizen of Dhaka city, we all have some responsibilities that we cannot skip. But we do. We can celebrate various festival of Bangladesh and the world’s festival but we don’t have much time to celebrate our own cities birthday. Maybe 400 year is a small age for a city. But it is our OWN CITY!.

You cannot see many variations like Dhaka. I do not want to consider other Cities social values and norms, but you will never find a city like Dhaka in Sub-continent or even in Asia. It is only mixed cultural economical city of the Asia. May be I love my city so much, that is why I am telling my statements like this, but consider some major cities of subcontinent Like Delhi, It is full of Mughal monuments and Mughal times structures, If you are talking about Kolkata, you found it is like the mostly the ancient city full of old Indian values with a British Emperor Touch in it, Consider Islamabad which is the Capital of Pakistan, That is also popular for Modern Islamic architects and a mixed of British culture.

I am not good at History, so my statements may be wrong, I visited some of the cities of the Indian Subcontinent and dont found so much variations like Dhaka, It is a Mixture of Old and the New Values, Consider the Old Dhaka, There you can enjoy the ancient dishes of old Dhaka, enjoy the monuments made by the British and Mughal Emperors, Now take a look at the new modified Dhaka, where we have one of the biggest shopping Mall in South Asia, full of New Architectural buildings and new fusion foods with the western influences. You can have a typical Indian dish in a very cheap rate as well as the all worlds expensive dishes in various areas of Dhaka city, The history is in the every part of the Old Dhaka, as well as the new history is also being writing in the New Dhaka. It is a deviation you will never get in any other city of the world.

Dhaka is Popular for Rickshaw, the modified version of Japanese vehicle you’ll never enjoy rather than Dhaka, You want to feel like a mughal emperor? Then enjoy the horse cart ride in Old Dhaka. There are so many things to re-discover you’ll never know if you do not visit Dhaka.

So if you are deciding to pack your backpack to heading towards somewhere, re-think and have a visit the Dhaka,

And for the citizens of Dhaka, re-think about your own city rather than visiting the floating markets of Thailand and the visit in Bali Island, Know your City First, You will never Regret Seriously!

DHAKA is FULL of MAGIC Come DISCOVER! ! ! !

Let us celebrate our very own cities Birth

let the peace may come

let the peace may come

It was Sunday afternoon; I was coming home from my university. I always enjoy walking, this day I also walking back to my home. Suddenly my eyes stocked in a set-up. It was just beside the BDR Pilkhana gate situated in Dhanmondi. Some people are trying to say their admiration to the departed soul who died in the incident that happens in BDR Pilkhana, last two days. I hope you all know about the situation.  I don’t know the person died, whether they were in the defense or were they busy enough to doing some corruption, or anything else. I

Menifesto

Menifesto

just know they are died in an unusable circumstance. The Bangladesh is a new nation compared to many other countries. For a new country like Bangladesh, it can consider a great loss for the future. So as a person of Bangladesh we should show some respect to the departed soul. I don’t know anything about high authority decision making process; don’t know anything about the corruption. I just want to live and stay safe in my mother homeland.  And I want to show the respect to the departed soul. May god take them heaven…..

dpp_0021_resizeIt was a sunny day in Dhaka. I was slipping in my bedroom having   sweet dream. Yes I am a little bit late riser, suddenly my Cell phone barks (!). It was Swapon a friend of mine, who destructed my nice and sweet dream with having a large shout that, where the hell are you right now!!! come on I had a  nice and sweet dream brother. Anyways what he told that we are in big trouble, So am I.. GOSH. the thing is he besically not know anything clearly but, we are surrounded by a big platoon of Army battelion. Poor Swapon. What should I do Brother? the thing he needs to clarify is. his younger sister is having S.S.C exam in Government Laboratory High School just opposite of our area.  So what is the problem?, I replied. Swapon felt little awkward and said you don’t know anything? no I am not, I replied.  Man! we are in trouble. there is something going on into the BDR cantonment.  I let you know. I live in just Opposite of Dhaka dpp_0017_resizeCollege in Dhaka. It is pretty near of BDR colony situated in Dhaka. so back to the scenario, What is happening I just asked Swapon, He told me that he don’t know either, BDR is continuously shooting from there guns in their cantonment and there is something going on. so that is Why army is coming to take control over the scenario. So what is our problem Swapon?. Then he told me he needs to go to Government laboratory School to take back his sister and he needs a company. As I am always busy for nothing. so I understand what kind of help he needs, Yes I am Coming brother you need a company right? YES!! replied Swapon. So I came out from our area, with swapon . In the mean time my one of senior Imran bhai called me and tells, where are you, there is some bad things going under BDR Cantonment. they are killing people for their certain reasons. So be safe as you are in the heart of that area. I just came out of my den and go in the main road where the action is taking place. It is Mirpur road. one of the main road of Dhaka City. I saw nearly three Army truck just passed by to take positions.  and firing sound of bullet is going on. enthusiast people are gathering in main street to see the scenes. I crossed the road and went to Laboratory School and see many of panic guardians and students are coming out and just wanted to leave the place as fast as they can.  The bullet is just flying from the barrack and killing civilian people. So far three people are dead when I come in main road. People are fanatic watching the scenario. So as a normal people I also do so. So I decided to just having a hike on the area to watch the situation. Some moments later Monju Bhai one of my another senior is said he is in the main arena of the arena. So if we want we can come over there. he is taking photographs of the event. We just go there and watch the situation. But there is a little fear that what is happenning and what should going to? after the night came BDR officials arrenged meeting to the government of Bangladesh to came over the situation. It was 25th of Fabruary 2009.

P.S Update of the situation.: I am not in my Home now I just come to another part of Dhaka City. as the Government has decided to clear the area and remove all the civilians for security reasons. Situations are under control now.

One woman walking along the beach of South Padre Island, Texas was appalled at the amount of trash she saw and she immediately felt compelled to do something about it. She organized a beach cleanup and in a mere two hours, 2,800 Texans picked up 124 tons of trash.

That was in 1986.

Today, a worldwide movement grew out of that single event with more than six million volunteers in 127 countries and all 55 U.S. states and territories over the last 23 years. On the third Saturday in September each year, the International Coastal Cleanup provides a direct and tangible way for individuals to make a difference for one of the largest problems we face, trash in the ocean. (source: www.oceanconservancy.org)

In Bangladesh, the starting story of coastal cleanup was almost same, It was back in 2006, when Kewkradong Bangladesh; a youth based community for outdoor activity decides to work for a better shoreline

After successfully arrenging two years cleanup program. This year Program was a bit challenging. Because we were not pretty sure that can we gather a bunch of people to work for a better shoreline of Bangladesh? this year’s cleanup Program was scheduled in holy Month of Ramadan. That is Why we are thinking on that manner. But the result was truly positive. It was a huge crowd gathered on the Day of Cleanup in Bangladesh. It was 5th September 2008. We Scheduled our Cleanup date on 5th because of the Eid ul Adha and Ramadan.

However, This year we have 100 of University Students From, IBA; NSU; EWU; BRAC and IUB. People of Cox’sbazar was a great support for us to made this event successfull, We are also thankful To SAFE for voluntary Medical Support, Delta Outdoors and Ex Scouts Group of Dhanmondi Govt. Boys High School for Logistics.

This year We gathered almost 100 kgs of Trash most of them Were Smoking related meterials (Cigerette butts and cigerette packs). and the rest of them were Plastic items ( Such as food wrapers, one time useable plate and glasses).

In 2006 it was 21

In 2007 it was 250

In 2008 it is almost 350

Let’s Welcome International Coastal Cleanup Bangladesh 2009 with the every one !
